Art Critique

    This work of art is named "Transcendence"and is by a black young woman named Rose Crawford. It is an oil painting that was started at RISD precollege. The black woman in the artwork is in a sea of different hues of purple and pinks.She has vines wrapped around her body and the vines have lilac colored roses growing from them. 
    
 This complimentary color scheme using purple and green is appealing.The flowing and somewhat carefree but uniformed shapes of the clouds are very beautiful and works perfectly for this piece. Her black flowing hair adds to the calm and relaxing vibe.
     
    My interpretation of this artwork is it is depicting a carefree, graceful, and beautiful black woman. This artwork to me is contradicting the stereotype of a harsh, violent, and ignorant black woman and giving a sense of peacefulness that usually is not portrayed. The scenery, her closed eyes,the vines, and her naked free body is showing that this is her natural beauty showing. 
    
     I absolutely love this artwork! It is beautifully done and is aesthetically pleasing. The grace of this artwork astonishing and I am completely captivated at this piece. The artist portrayed her visions perfectly from the color scheme to the woman herself. She elegantly painted the transcendent woman.
